Innovation curbed by bureaucracy, but upcoming COP30 to unlock ESG investments, says Alexei Bonamin

Despite the significant allure and undeniable legislative progress to encourage ESG-investments in the Brazilian capital markets, bureaucracy has hindered the use of new green, social, and sustainable instruments.
Alexei Bonamin, a partner at TozziniFreire, says that since 2020 the legislative framework allows for the issuance of incentivised debentures tied to ESG commitments, which would be tax-exempt, and not subject to concessionary oversight.
